University of Aberdeen, U.K.
Kind: MRes or MSc or Diploma in Marine and Fisheries Science: Sustainable Management of Living Marine Resources Location: Aberdeen, U.K.
Language: English
Description of course: The programmes include training in data handling, statistics and other research and generic skills, and the opportunity to carry out a four-month individual research project. While centred in marine biology and ecology, the course also covers relevant topics in animal physiology and molecular biology, socio-economics and the physical sciences. The MRes is a relatively new qualification for students who wish to follow a career in scientific research. The subject-based content of this degree is based on our long-standing MSc degree programme in Marine & Fisheries Science. Students who lack appropriate entry qualifications may register for a Postgraduate Diploma and may be allowed to upgrade to MSc or MRes depending on their performance.
Duration: MRes/MSc degrees: 12 months, comprising taught modules and research project. Diploma: 9 months, comprising taught modules and dissertation
Facilities: Marine labs, research ship. The University can provide living accommodation for postgraduate students.
Conditions for participation: The normal minimum entry requirement for study leading to the degree of MSc or MRes is a lower second class degree or the equivalent. Relevant experience may also be taken into account. The number of places available on the course is limited and places will be allocated on a competitive basis according to qualifications and experience. The offer of a place does not imply that funding will be offered. While most students hold first degrees in a science subject, we will also admit students with degrees in other disciplines, including economics and geography.
