Description of course (3 credits): introduction to the marine environment; introduction to conservation science; marine biodiversity and ecosystems; research and monitoring activities; main threats to marine biodiversity; conservation and management actions; marine protected areas (selection, establishment, management); protection of marine species; the Mediterranean case; the main international legal instruments for marine conservation (e.g., Barcelona Convention and its Protocols, ACCOBAMS); case histories.
