Description of course: The course can be used for both Master and PhD data acquisition, and other related degrees. It focuses on studies of the behavioural ecology, abundance, and conservation of dolphin and whale species in the eastern Aegean Sea. Possible fields of work: visual and acoustic assessment of cetacean species abundance during dedicated boat-based surveys; visual assessment of cetacean species abundance using ‘platforms of opportunity'; visual assessment of cetacean species abundance from land-based observation points; passive acoustic monitoring of special areas of interest using autonomous hydrophone systems; computer-based monitoring of acoustic recordings using spectrographic software; visual and acoustic monitoring of human activities in the marine environment. Duration: 3 to 12 months (can be extended if necessary)
