Language: French, but English can be envisaged Description of course: Aim of the training course is to bring the student to a status of skilled observer, able to participate to and understand most cetacean scientific surveys. Visual and acoustic sampling, photo-identification, behaviour, distribution studies with environmental variables, etc. are taught with a mix of theoretical and practical lessons. The formation comprises three levels of skill: level 1 with 5 days classroom courses (8 items) and one day at sea on a local introductive survey (in September), level 2 with 7 days on a full scale survey (spring or autumn) with 2-3 complementary tutorial sessions on photo-ID and acoustics, level 3 with 2-4 weeks on a dedicated survey in the Mediterranean (summer).
Duration: Total active time: 4-6 weeks. All 3 levels can be completed during a 10 months period.
Facilities: Centre CREPS and research vessel
Indicative costs: €450/session, including room and board
Conditions for participation: Age 20+; graduate in science if possible, but not mandatory
