Description of course: This project is mostly focussed on the tracking, both visual and acoustic, of two species: common dolphin (Delphinus delphis) and sperm whale (Physeter macrocephalus), which are spending summer months in the rich waters of the submarine canyon of Cuma. The presence in such a small area of seven different cetacean species gives an exceptional occasion to study distribution, habitat use and behaviour of these animals. Participants end the stage with an improved knowledge regarding: technique of photography and methods of photo-identification, insight into cetacean behaviour and bioacoustics, use of specifically designed software mainly focused on bioacoustics, use of research instruments, techniques of sailing, small maintenance jobs onboard, general knowledge on maps and navigation.

Conditions for participation: Age 18+; good level of English or Italian; must be able to swim.
