25 years of Cetacean Conservation and more actions to pursue….

This 24 November 2021 celebrates the 25th Anniversary of the signature of the ACCOBAMS Agreement, established in 1996 under the auspices of the Bonn Convention (CMS).

The success of a mission is determined by the coherence of its objectives, its driving force, continuous work and indispensable resilience. During its existence, ACCOBAMS has been able to gather the resilience required to reformulate its approaches, thanks to a strong joint determination, as well as the unwavering support of the Principality of Monaco, which has hosted the Secretariat since its origin.

Fourteenth Meeting of the ACCOBAMS Scientific Committee

From 22 to 26 November 2021, the 14th Meeting of the ACCOBAMS Scientific Committee was held at the Oceanographic Museum in Monaco.

About forty participants were present, including Committee Members, regional representatives, representatives of the Sub-Regional Coordination Units (Mediterranean and Black Sea), various international organisations with actions related to cetacean conservation (ASCOBANS, IWC, CIESM, CMS, ECS, IUCN, Pelagos Agreement), ACCOBAMS Partners as well as many experts.

Awarding of the prize to the CSMC5 winner of the poster contest in Monaco

Thanks to financial support from Monaco a contest organised at the occasion of  the 5th Conference on the Conservation of Cetaceans in the South Mediterranean Countries (CSMC5), last April, aimed at selecting the best informative posters in relation to the ACCOBAMS scientific scope of work.

Mrs. Isabelle ROSABRUNETTO, Director General of the Department of External Relations and Cooperation, announced that Mr Wael KOUCHED, a post-doctoral student at the National Institute of Marine Sciences and Technologies in Tunisia, won the first prize with his poster on: “Monitoring of Tursiops truncatus around an aquaculture farm in eastern Tunisia“.

Today, during the 14th meeting of the ACCOBAMS Scientific Committee, the ACCOBAMS Executive Secretary, Mrs. Susana Salvador, the Chair and Vice-Chair of the Scientific Committee, Mr. Simone Panigada and Mrs. Léa David, respectively, congratulated Mr. Wael Kouched for his work and collaboration.
