Latest GFCM publications on incidental catches

GFCM recently published two reports related to monitoring and mitigation of incidental catches of vulnerable species.

 – GFCM Studies and Reviews 100. Overview of mitigation measures to reduce the incidental catch of vulnerable species in fisheries

 – GFCM Studies and Reviews 101. Incidental catch of vulnerable species in Mediterranean and Black Sea fisheries: a review

 

Both publications were developed in collaboration with ACCOBAMS as part of the projects on interactions with fisheries funded by the MAVA Foundation over the last years.

Press Release – IUCN World Conservation Congress

Marseille, 9 September 2021 –The IUCN World Conservation Congress held in Marseille, provided an important opportunity for the Mediterranean conservation community to exchange on new solutions for addressing the main challenges of the region in terms of climate action and biodiversity conservation. Following the new political announcements and the launch of the Plan of Action for an Exemplary Mediterranean Sea by 2030 (PAMEX) by 8 Mediterranean governments to preserve marine biodiversity through 19 operational actions , 12 partner organisations explored new joint mechanisms to kick-start nature-based recovery across the region.
